More thoughts on downsizing, and some morning pictures

Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of downsizing, finding parts for an older rig, and whether or not to go toadless. You all made good points and it was a great conversation. Hopefully other people thinking about downsizing will find it useful, too.

It looks like this particular rig may already be sold. I hope that whoever bought it loves it as much as I loved just the pictures of it. I'm confident that the perfect rig will come along at the perfect time and place and I will fall in love all over again.

As I mentioned in the comments on the last post, I really don't care if I find a small Class A, Class C, or even a truck or van and trailer combo (ala RVSue), though that last would be more work and upfront expense than an older Class A or C. The key is small. If I didn't have cats then I'd think seriously about a truck camper or Class B van. It's the ease of getting around and getting into way cool boondocking spots that is driving this change. If I were one who just went from campground to campground then having a big rig like this wouldn't matter but my preference is to be out in the boonies by myself, with just the wind and birds and my critters for company. I've been lucky enough to find many spots like this even with the big rig but I also know I've missed out on a lot more terrific spots. I like options and plenty of them - a small rig will give me that.

It's very quiet here right now, typical of the middle of the week. I have the river all to myself. Here are some pictures of our early morning walk.

And a sunset shot from the last time I camped here.

And finally, I decided just NOW to change the blog name. Wasn't real thrilled with Fur Kids but couldn't think of a good alternative at the time. Then it hit me, Furballs works! And I like it better.

  1. Hi Anne, I agree with you... when the right rig comes along, you'll know. I would be hesitant to buy an older rig, too, so I can sure see your hesitation. Those are some peaceful shots around your spot. It won't be long now before Steve and I are able to get out there, too! Good luck with the downsizing! Grace (in Tucson)

I heard that it's not long now for you guys! How cool! Do you know yet where you're going first? I hope our paths cross again!

    2. I retire the first of March so, I think we'll slowly work our way up to the mountain in N. AZ. Absolutely can't wait!!!! I'm fairly certain our paths will cross again. BTW, we sold the Sami and bought a 1994, 4WD, automatic Geo. I love it!

    1. With no one around right now, I'm letting the cats go out and Jake off leash. I think they approve! I may move to a more secluded site by the lake before the weekend so the fun and freedom can continue.

  3. I like the new name! Maybe the rig you were thinking about being sold is a good thing. Now you don't have to worry about it and a newer rig will pop up over the horizon. Hope so! :)

  4. From one cat person to another, at least you didn't call it 'Annie and the hair balls'! ha...
Love the pictures, I could sure use some of that beautiful, peaceful solitude in my life right now. We always boondocked, before I ever heard it called that name. We slept out in the woods, mountains and deserts 98% of the time on our trips out west. Do me one little favor, take a big relaxing deep breath of the fresh air out there for me, please!!

    1. Hair balls! LOL! That's descriptive of many of my days.

You were boondocking before boondocking was cool. Just one breath? For you, two!

    1. I'm lucky that way. The yards keep changing but they're all stellar. And I never have to mow!
