Moved and more

Yesterday about mid-morning the winds picked up again and by the afternoon it was giving us a big blow. Gusts around 50 mph (that's 80.47 kilometers per hour for my canadian friends, assuming the website that did the math for me is math'n right). I went out scouting for my next camping spot and the wind was buffeting my Honda CR-V pretty good; I wouldn't have wanted to have the rig on the road for sure.

New Mexico has the friendliest drivers I've ever seen. I get waved at all the time. I always keep a hand on top of the steering wheel now so I can return the friendliness. The first couple of times was an oddity, by the third or fourth I thought there must be something wrong with the front of my car. Nope! Just friendly folks, or maybe they just like my front license plate.

Picture this. I'm driving down a rural road and pass by a temporarily abandoned bridge construction project. The door of the blue porta-john is banging open-close-open-close-open-close in the wind, a streamer of toilet paper is spooling out the door, waving to me as I drive past. See? Friendly!

Pizza Hut has this thing that if you register on their site you get free cinnamon sticks for your birthday. It's not my birthday yet but I already received the freebie email, so yesterday I ordered pizza and my free cinnamon sticks. An ENTIRE ORDER of cinnamon sticks, for ONE person. Do you have any idea how long that lasts?!

An hour and a half.

Contessa wins the Above and Beyond award for offering herself up as guinea pig and testing out the "Notify me" box in the comments field. If you check the "Notify me" box when you comment, you'll not only get a separate email for every reply to that comment but you'll also get an email of your own comment. How silly is that?

I filled up my fresh water tank this morning and headed on to a new boondocking site. I could have stayed longer at the riverside site but with the weekend coming I knew it was going to fill up again and I'd much rather have space all to myself.

Here are some pictures of the new site. Not quite as picturesque as the last but quite pretty in its own right, wouldn't you say?

Probably the best ever picture of Lily in action - or the only one.

This is her "Pick me up!"
And yes, I know, I got pretty filthy hooking up the toad this morning.

And some blooms

  1. Am I first?? Am I first??? (This is what we all do on RVSue's site, so I will continue the tradition here).
So, where in the heck are you? Still in New Mexico? Or did I read through too fast (in order to be first commenter) that I missed that part?
I'm loving your blog. Have followed you for years, (via Roxi) and I love humor and RVing. By gosh, I should be living in an RV !!!!
Anyway, Thanks for another great blog to add to my list of great bloggers. You are, I assure you, in fine company:

OK, I could go on, but now I doubt I'll be the first commenter so I will stop.

  2. I'd say you did real good finding a new spot. Did you have to drive far? I love that license plate. I'd wave, too! I remember "the wave" as a small town mid-western thing... quite neighborly.

    1. No, didn't have to drive far at all.

In NY we had to have front and back state license plates. So boring. I wanted something fun and colorful on the front now that I'm an AZ resident. Tada!

We did a lot of small town waving in the mid-west but then we knew everyone, too. It is a nice gesture.

  3. Wow Annie, I'm jealous. Look at the company you are in on Jool's blog roll. :-) But I have to agree this is a great blog, smart, witty and funny but then that would describe you too, just add cute! Can't believe this is your 2nd choice site. It's GREAT! Look at those views. Nice flowers, pretty kitty. What more could we want??

    1. Opps....forgot to say that there is no picture of the captain of the furball team in that list of mugs. I know you'll fix that right away!

    2. I don't know if I'm worthy enough to be listed in such great company but I'll take it, anyway!

      Thanks for the compliments!

Just added a picture of me. Now aren't you sorry! :)

  5. That's a great ground level eye to eye Lily photo. Kelly & I have often talked about a higher elevation cooler summer place somewhere in New Mexico. We have always liked the State but unfortunately with me being Canadian we just can't make it happen. Looks like you have yourself a fine spot. Solitude rules:))

    1. I can definitely see the draw of having a higher elevation place here for the summer. Sorry you guys can't make that work.

It is nicely quiet here. There are other rigs within sight but they're not close enough to make any difference.

  6. We're in Elephant Butte and we've noticed the same thing about the waving. I just read that part of your blog to Larry about pulling over and he laughed and said "who does that remind you of?" When we first got here, I would make him pull over and check the Jeep because I thought people must be trying to tell us that something was wrong.

  8. I think an hour and a half shows great restraint - it's the scent that gets me! Glad Sherry encouraged your pic posting, I was starting to picture Jake at the keyboard...... Nothing makes one feel more welcome than waving toilet paper :-).

    1. Well, in my defense, the hour and half also included pizza. :)

Jake is a horrible typist so he just dictates to me. The cats, however, are all over the keyboard.

  9. Looks great - nice to be in a peaceful place over the weekend. Definitely not likely here in my spot! :)

  10. Looks like a fine place with a view of the lake. Plus great to be away from the weekend crowds.
